1978 vespa rally 200

My 2023 Vespa GTS 300 and I covered thousands of kilometers together in a very short time. Unfortunately, a tragic accident separated us. It was a wonderful riding companion, filled with great memories and unforgettable journeys.

One of our stop points on the return leg of our 180 km ride with the 1993 Vespa PX 200 was İznik. The route through İzmit, Gölcük, İznik, İnegöl and the Babasultan village is one of our favorite scooter-friendly tracks, offering a smooth and enjoyable ride.

The Vespa PX 200 completed the trip without any issues, except for a single flat tire, and never let me down. This old warrior even reached 120 km/h in 4th gear at times. Today, it has been fully restored by its new owner. Through this whole experience, I gained a solid understanding of how two-stroke engines work and discovered once again how surprisingly comfortable classic Vespas truly are.

The Vespa GTS 300 HPE is my second Vespa experience after the Primavera 150. We’ve ridden through beautiful roads and visited wonderful places together. It has been a truly great companion on the journey.

Here I am in İznik—known in antiquity as Nicaea—one of Türkiye’s timeless cities that everyone should see at least once. A place of deep historical significance: the ancient city where the earliest Hagia Sophia was built and where the Councils that consolidated the New Testament were held. İznik still carries the wisdom of centuries in its quiet streets.

On the İznik–İzmit road, as the sun sets behind the mountains beyond Lake İznik, the improved suspension of the Vespa GTS 310 and the HPE engine make this winding, rising-and-descending route even more enjoyable. When the spirit of the road, the weight of history, and the joy of riding a Vespa come together, it creates a moment to remember.

After three unforgettable days on the road, my journey reached the 1,500 km mark right here in Türkiye’s capital, Ankara. It was around 11 AM, the city calm, the sky clear, and Atakule standing proudly in the background—one of the timeless symbols of this city. Riding my Vespa 310 through changing landscapes, small towns, open roads, and endless horizons has been a reminder of how travel isn’t just about the destination, but the moments collected along the way.

This stop in Ankara felt special—a blend of history, modernity, and that familiar sense of being in the heart of the country. With nearly 1,800 km completed in total, this photo marks not only a milestone on the odometer, but a moment of gratitude for the freedom, clarity, and peace that the road always brings.
